KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Trent Green will remain sidelined indefinitely with a "very, very severe concussion," the team announced Monday.

Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson said Green will remain hospitalized until at least Tuesday.

"He's feeling much better," Peterson said. "But he has a very king-sized headache. Hopefully he'll be able to go home tomorrow.

"It will be a day-to-day, week-to-week evaluation by the doctors. Thank goodness he had no problems with his limbs."

Green suffered severe head trauma after being hit by defensive end Robert Geathers in the third quarter of Sunday's season-opening 23-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

As Green went into a feet-first hook slide, Geathers came flying in and slammed his right shoulder into Green's chest, causing the quarterback's head to bang into the turf late in the third quarter. The hit left Green unconscious.

"I know I didn't hit him head-to-head," Geathers said. "I think it was my shoulder pad that hit him in his chest. But it was hard watching him down on that ground."

The game was delayed for 11 minutes while Green was carted off on a stretcher.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Green completed 11-of-15 passes for 90 yards with an interception. Damon Huard replaced him and was 12-of-20 for 140 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tony Gonzalez with 3:52 left in the game.

Huard likely will start Sunday against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos.

The only other quarterback on Kansas City's roster is rookie Brodie Croyle, a third-round pick out of Alabama.

Green, 36, has passed for more than 4,000 yards in each of the last three seasons with Kansas City. He set career highs with 4,591 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2004.

I saw that hit....there's no way the refs should not have flagged the guy. Green was sliding feet first not head first which would have made him fair game. He's not fair game when sliding feet first, head first yes, but not feet first.

The NFL really needs to review that play. That guy needs a hefty fine. Not that it will do the Chiefs any good but stuff like that shouldn't be allowed. dry.gif

What a shame. That's really going to kill the Chiefs.

I thought they concluded, " he was pushed into Green ", by another player, which got him off the hook.

Either way.., I " hated " to see it happen ..., and of coarse, was on pins and needles when it took so long to find out Green was ok. planetrams/icon13.gif

They may have concluded that but I didn't see where he was pushed into him. dry.gif

Oh well, hope he comes back soon. I've always liked Green.
