KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday released veteran linebacker Mike Maslowski, who spent all of last season on injured reserve.

Maslowski started 31 of 65 games for the Chiefs from 1999-2004 and set a franchise single-season record with 162 tackles in 2002.

"Mike Maslowski has been an extremely important player for this franchise since '99," Chiefs president Carl Peterson said. "He has grown with the Chiefs from his days as an NCAA Division III player, through NFL Europe, to starting linebacker and the most prolific tackler in a single season for this team."

But Maslowski has been hampered after undergoing a tibial osteotomy to repair a left knee injury last year.

Maslowski, 31, joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 1999 after earning Division III All-America honors at Wisconsin-La Crosse and played for Barcelona of NFL Europe that spring, recording 105 tackles.

The Chiefs on Tuesday also signed quarterback Jonathan Quinn to a one-year contract.

Quinn was the Chiefs' third-string quarterback for two years before signing with the Chicago Bears last season. He appeared in five games with the Bears, including three starts, and completed 51-of-98 passes for 413 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions.
