Two and a half hours after I said the calling for Matt Leinart had begun, the trigger has been pulled. After a single bad game against the St. Louis Rams, quarterback Kurt Warner has been benched and rookie Matt Leinart will take over the starting roll - This according to Chris Mortenson on NFL Countdown.

Matt Leinart will make his NFL regular season debut next week against when the Cardinals travel to Georgia to play the Atlanta Falcons. Not exactly the ideal team or situation for Matt Leinart to be thrown into. He will be facing a fantastic team with an outstanding defense while on the road, while trying to salvage a 1-2 start after replacing a former Super Bowl and NFL MVP.

All you Cardinals fans who wanted it, you got it. I think this is a huge mistake but would gladly eat crow if it turned out not to be. As optimistic as I want to be, the realistic part of me is taking over. If you were hoping for a winning season, you can forget it now. There will be growing pains and lots of them. At the same time, Leinart will be a step ahead when next season begins.
