Corey Dillon has asked for and will receive his release. Yesterday Dillon - who is 32 yrs old - cited a discussion with Tiki Barber as the reason and that he wants to retire "while I can still play with my kids." Today, his agent says that he will field offers from any team that is interested in Dillon's services. Marty said that Belichek was "setting a bad precedent" by agreeing to release Dillon at his request.

Thomas Jones has asked that the Bears trade him. ME: I wonder if this has anything to do with Lovie's negotiations. I heard that a lot of Bears' stars agreed to refuse to do anything until Lovie was taken care of.

Speaking of Smith, he was on saying that he wanted to retire a Bear and that his agent was trying to negotiate him a "fair" contract. At his current salary of 1.45 mil he will be the lowest paid HC in the NFL for THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW.

Coughlin was on and said he was "hurt" by Tiki's insinuation that he had anything to do with his retirement. He said his door was always open and that Tiki - whom he holds in "high regard" - never once complained or approached the subject with him.

THE NFL PLAYERS called for a meeting with Upshaw and suggested a "3 strikes and you're out" policy regarding arrests. The only player mentioned by name was T.J. Houshminazda, whose teamate Chris Henry was arrested four times in three different states in the last year. Carson Palmer, who had 9 teamates arrested in the past year, is said to endorse the policy as well. Marty said that the policy would be impossible to enforce and that the NFL would spend more time with lawsuits than they would playing the game. Marty went on to say it was "a good start". To my disbelief, there was coach Marvin Lewis on TV saying that the string of arrests was "just bad luck".

They covered the Falcons today. Although Mel has them picking Laron Landry at #10, Salisbury was adamant that they pick Dwayne Jarret or another WR in the first. In fact, at the end of the segment he leaned forward and whispered into the camera: "Falcons, draft Dwayne Jarrett."

They showed a stat that doesn't bode well for Petrino. The last four HC's to come from college (Davis, Erickson, Spurrier and Saban) never made it to .500 and their compiled record is well below that.

TO will undergoe "the second phase" of his surgery on Mar 1st, and expects to be healthy and ready for mini-camp (hey, it wouldn't be ESPN if they didn't mention TO at least once a show).

Kellen Winslow's (knee?) injury is more serious than first diagnosed and doctors say it will take AT LEAST four months to rehabilitate. That could effect training camp and the upcoming season as well.

Jack Del Rio has named Leftwich the starter for the 07 season. Marty seemed to agree with this choice.

The Cleveland Browns have won the coin toss and officially pick 3rd, with Tampa picking at fourth. Salisbury quipped: "Hello Adrian Petersen!"

Mel's crawl at the bottom is consistent so far as the RAMS go. He has Charles Johnson, DE Georgia at #13 on his "Big Board" and he has us picking Johnson at #13. Conversely, although he has Alan Branch DT Mich at #20 on his big board, he has him tabbed at #11 to SF.

Speaking of SF, they are "On the Clock" on Monday's edition of "NFL Live".

The RAMS were only mentioned once. Schott, who has coached three all world TE's (Newsome in CLE, Gonzalez in KC and Gates in SD) said a TE who can stretch the field is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. Salisbury agreed, calling the RAMS the only "abberation" to win a Super Bowl without a good TE.
